Sortimo develops intelligent mobility solutions that help companies achieve their sustainability goals in a measurable way. Together with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, a vehicle equipment system has been developed that makes fleets more efficient and reduces their carbon footprint. The example of Vestas shows how well this works in practice: the global partner for sustainable energy solutions is continuing to electrify its onshore service fleet. Eleven Volkswagen e-Transporters, equipped with the new One Click System from Sortimo, have now been handed over to Vestas in Zusmarshausen. The complete solution from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Sortimo is ready for use straight from the factory, can be rolled out worldwide and shows how sustainable fleet concepts can be implemented today.
A lever for the sustainability strategy
Vestas is pursuing a scientifically based approach to decarbonising its own operations by 2030, deliberately avoiding compensation measures. Almost 80% of emissions from its own operations are generated in the service area. This high proportion shows where there is potential for savings and why Vestas is targeting this area. Already today, around 25% of Vestas' global service fleet consists of vehicles running on renewable fuels, including electric and biofuel vehicles.
With the eleven new e-transporters, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' second fully electric model alongside the ID. Buzz Cargo, the proportion of electric vehicles within the Vestas fleet continues to rise. The joint solution from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Sortimo combines locally emission-free drive technology with flexible and reusable vehicle equipment. The One Click System makes it possible to adapt the vehicles to new requirements in no time at all and keep them in service for many years. Thanks to the standardised basic rack, users can quickly and easily add or convert their equipment individually without additional workshop appointments. In this way, Sortimo supports companies such as Vestas in achieving their sustainability goals in a more economical and resource-efficient manner.
Vehicle equipment that changes everyday working life
The One Click System allows individual shelf elements to be quickly replaced without having to replace the basic shelf. Large fleets such as Vestas' benefit from reduced material requirements, less downtime and durable equipment that lasts for several vehicle life cycles. The lower weight reduces energy consumption and increases the range of the e-transporters. At the same time, service teams are provided with a working environment that can be flexibly adapted to new tasks at any time – without having to visit the workshop.
Three partners. One direction.
‘With the One Click System, we offer Vestas a solution that is not only economically viable, but also environmentally sustainable,’ explains Reinhold Braun, Managing Director of Sortimo International GmbH. ‘Less weight, less effort, more impact. On the road and in the everyday lives of service technicians.’
Lars Krause, Member of the Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, emphasises: "With the new Volkswagen e-Transporter, we are expanding the basis for an emission-free service fleet. In combination with Sortimo's One Click System, the result is a commercial vehicle that is ready for immediate use and tailored precisely to the customer's requirements. With this offering, we are continuing the Transporter's 75-year success story and actively driving forward the electrification of our product range."
For Kim Stenberg, Head of Vestas Group Fleet Management, this joint venture represents another important step towards decarbonising the Vestas service fleet: "Our goal is clear: we want to show that sustainability can be achieved in all areas of our operations, including our service activities. Together with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Sortimo, we have developed the best possible solution to achieve this goal. In targeted lean workshops, we jointly designed the interior of the e-Transporter to meet Vestas' specific service requirements. This collaboration brings us a significant step closer to the sustainable decarbonisation of our fleet."
First handover with an eye to the future
The vehicles were handed over jointly to representatives of Vestas. This marks the transition from a joint project to reality. For Vestas' service teams, the use of the new commercial vehicles will mean more space, better organisation and simpler processes in future.
The handover represents more than just the successful completion of an order. It shows that three companies with different strengths can achieve a common goal: a service fleet that consumes less, performs better and is more climate-friendly on the road.
A visible sign of the energy transition in the vehicle fleet and an impetus for the entire industry.
